I was curious to find the best project management tools available in 2015. Without a shadow of a doubt, at one time Basecamp was the leader in web based project management software. It was the goto project management tool when it came to managing projects and personnel.
Basecamp then decided to change things up, and for one reason or another, decided that the direction they wanted their super product to go in was slightly different to where I would have liked it to go. Don’t get me wrong, for the right purposes Basecamp is no doubt still a leader in the industry. They did however decide to do away with time tracking (at least around the time I was needing it) and as such, Basecamp was only able to meet my needs if I stayed with Basecamp Classic.
I decided to begin looking for a project management tool that included some of these other types of functionalities (e.g. time tracking). In my search I discovered a group out of Cork, Ireland that had developed a tool very similar in function to Basecamp, but with some of the additional functionalities I was looking for (being from Ireland myself it was an added bonus to help my fellow countrymen). Teamwork.com was born and I haven’t looked back since.
Teamwork felt to me like they had taken all the greatness of Basecamp and then added a fresh perspective to it. It has a simplistic, easy to learn interface, integrated time tracking with a cool desktop widget, some very nifty task-driven Gantt chart functionality, the ability to export your time to applications such as Quickbooks online, Freshbooks, and Excel, and an attention to detail on the little things that make or break your daily work experience.
What impressed me most of all though with Teamwork are two things. The first was the care and professionalism Mr. Pat Murphy brought to the customer care experience – (Teamwork Brass if you are reading this, give that man a raise!). The second was their response time to questions I had, and their willingness to LISTEN and follow through. To give you an example there was a small bug on the site where the date year wasn’t showing, which was particularly tricky for me as I had just (seamlessly) imported all my data in from Basecamp. I contacted support, and within a week or two not only had Teamwork contacted me back but they had fixed and launched the bug I had spotted!
Pretty impressive, considering a company like this likely has bigger fish to fry.
If you are a digital marketing or web based company on the lookout for a reliable, comprehensive project management tool, look no further than Teamwork – you never know, they might even give you a discount if you ask nicely!
